Les Trois Petiotes
Les Trois Petiotes represents a small artisanal reality within the vast sea of the Bordeaux territory, originated and conducted with a completely feminine grace. Valerie Godelu founded the winery in 2008, after the birth of her last little girl, and dedicates the name to her three little ones who have marked the stages of this winemaking adventure: Léa, the moment of distance learning; Alys, the family's escape from Paris; Elsa, the purchase of the vineyard and the winemaking.
Les Trois Petiotes extends its properties over three different parcels for a total of 3 hectares within the Côtes de Bourg denomination, a small southern portion of the Bordeaux wine region of Bourg et Blaye: the territory expands on the right bank of the Dordogne, right near the confluence with the Garonne and stretches for a short distance along the banks of the estuary, opposite the famous Haut Medoc. The vineyards thrive around the village of Tauriac, on the gentle undulations spread a few kilometers inland from the Gironde, constantly caressed by a healthy wind. They are composed of the most typical indigenous varieties of this sector. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec come from vines that have an average age of over 45 years, cultivated according to organic guidelines, with cover crops between the rows to promote the development of biodiversity as much as possible, and manual work carried out from winter pruning to harvest, with great attention paid to limiting yields. The soils have a characteristic clay-limestone matrix with a strong presence of gravel, scattered with pebbles and stones.
The Les Trois Petiotes winery is physically located in the municipality of Tauriac: winemaking is carried out there with precision and lightness, in search of finesse and territorial expression rather than concentration and power. Fermentations are entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts, which take all the time necessary for their work, and the addition of sulfites is calculated in negligible doses, when not avoided altogether; operations deemed too invasive, such as filtrations, clarifications, and stabilizations. Barriques of multiple passages and steel tanks are the elements for conducting the aging process, while the macerations on the skins are never too pushed, in order to gain aromaticity avoiding overly voluminous structures. The blends are combined in various ways among the three varieties, following the spirit with which each cuvée is made.
