Pira Luigi

The Pira Luigi winery represents an important winery in Serralunga d'Alba committed at the family level to the production of traditional Barolo. Since the late 1800s, the Pira family has been linked to the territory of Serralunga, and in the 1950s, Luigi Pira directed the estate towards the exclusive winemaking activity of selling grapes and bulk wine to the large wineries in the area. Since the 1990s, with the entry into the estate of Gianpaolo, Luigi's son, the winery has further oriented itself towards quality, also thanks to the introduction of cutting-edge machinery and techniques, always with the utmost respect for tradition. Today, Gianpaolo is still at the helm, assisted by his brothers Romolo and Claudio, who also benefit from the collaboration of Marc De Grazia.

The 12 hectares of vineyards cultivated by the Luigi Pira estate are dedicated to the traditional black grape varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. These vines are cultivated mainly through manual labor on calcareous-clay soils with exposure predominantly to the west. Fermentations are carried out at controlled temperature in mechanized fermenters, while the subsequent aging phase takes place, depending on the wine in question, in barriques or French oak tonneaux and, above all, in large Slavonian oak barrels of 25 hectoliters. The use of wood is always well considered, employed in search of the right balance between the wine, the territory, tradition, and innovation.

The Pira Luigi winery can boast prestigious Barolo crus from Serralunga such as 'Vignarionda', 'Margheria', and 'Marenca'. These are Barolo in a classic and traditional style, characterized by a powerful mineral stamp in the case of 'Margheria', by a strong structure when talking about 'Marenca', and by a deep elegance in the case of 'Vignarionda'. Completing the selection is the Barolo from Serralunga, produced from a blend of various parcels included in the territory of Serralunga d'Alba, the accessible Langhe Nebbiolo, the enveloping Barbera d'Alba Superiore and the lively Dolcetto d'Alba, all authentic expressions of the Langhe.
