Luis Seabra
Through a pure, genuine, and authentic style, the small Portuguese wine reality Luis Seabra Vinhos interprets the Douro Valley with its traditions and numerous indigenous varieties. The origins of the winery date back to 2013, when Luis Seabra, after years spent working as a winemaker at famous Lusitanian estates in the Vinho Verde and Douro areas, started his own winemaking project in Vilarouco, in the heart of the Douro Valley wine region, together with his wife Natalia, who is also a winemaker. Thanks to his innovative and purist approach, Luis Seabra is among the proponents of the Portuguese wine renaissance.
The estate of Luis Seabra covers 8 hectares of vineyards located in the areas of Douro, Vinho Verde, and Dão, characterized by heterogeneous soils, altitudes, and exposures. Many cultivated plots are represented by very old vines that over time have developed a symbiosis with the territory, managing to provide surprising results even in the most complicated vintages. In general, the soils are often rich in schist and mineral elements while the altitudes vary from 400 to 600 meters above sea level. The cultivated grape varieties include the indigenous Rufete, Touriga Franca, Tinta Carvalha, Alicante Bouchet, Donzelinho Tinto, and Malvazia Preta for black grapes, Rabigato, Gouveio, Codega, Viosinho, and Alvarinho among the white grapes. The agronomic management adopted by Luis is sustainable while the wine approach is minimalist, respectful of the character of the territory. In this perspective, the fermentations are entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts and the use of enological aids and additives is excluded. The vinifications are often conducted in old wooden vats previously used for Port, while the aging takes place in French oak barrels of multiple passes or in stainless steel tanks.
Thus comes to life the selection of the Luis Seabra winery, composed of raw expressions of the terroir of origin made without compromising with the market.
