Luxardo

With over 200 years of history behind, the Venetian company Luxardo ranks among the leaders in the production of marasca liqueurs. It was Girolamo Luxardo who started the production activity in Zara, on the Dalmatian coast, in 1821, for centuries under the dominion of the Republic of Venice and annexed to the Austrian Empire since 1797. Of Genoese origin, Girolamo moved with his family to Zara in 1817 and, thanks to his wife Maria Canevari, who began producing a delicious liqueur inspired by the traditional “Rosolio Maraschino” at home, he had the idea to fully invest in this activity, founding the first Luxardo factory dedicated to the production of Maraschino. The success was such that in 1829 the Emperor of Austria granted Girolamo the exclusivity on the production of this liqueur for the next 15 years. Another important milestone was achieved by Michelangelo Luxardo in 1913, the year a new, highly avant-garde facility for the time was opened, one of the largest in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, located in the port of Zara.

A very dark period followed for the family with World War II, which first saw the destruction of the factory by Anglo-American troops and then the killing of Pietro Luxardo along with his brother Nicolò and his wife by Tito. However, in 1947, the surviving family members, Giorgio and Nicolò III, respectively the fourth and fifth generations of the Luxardo family, built a new facility in Torreglia, which is still in operation today. Currently, Luxardo exports its specialties to over 80 countries around the world and represents one of the few European companies still owned by the same family.

The Luxardo family directly oversees every phase of the production process, aiming to offer the highest achievable quality. In particular, the family's cornerstones include: respect for traditions and product quality, maintaining a direct relationship with employees and customers, and constant attention to human and environmental values.

With these premises, the Luxardo family produces liqueurs, distillates, and otherspecialties strongly linked to its long tradition. Among these, the Maraschino Originale stands out, still produced according to the ancient recipe of Girolamo Luxardo, dating back to 1821.
