In Primeaux-Prissey, a hamlet located just south of the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Machard de Gramont offers spontaneous expressions of the terroir, made through its own distinctive style. This family-run estate was founded in 1983 by Arnaud Machard de Gramont, now joined by his sons Alban and Alexis. Previously, he worked in the large family Domaine consisting of 32 hectares, which was later split into three different wineries, one of which Arnaud inherited. During the following years this Burgundian vigneron did a great job of rehabilitating old vineyards located in the hills, first abandoned because of the wine crisis due to phylloxera and later because of the wars. The structure used as a winery dates back two centuries and is characterized by beautiful and striking 19th-century vaults.

The 20 hectares of vineyards available to the Domaine are located between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. The varieties grown are those of the noble Côte d'Or tradition, namely Chardonnay for the whites and Pinot Noir for the reds. The soils, which are very diverse according to the climat in question, are predominantly limestone-clay. Plants having an average age of about 30 years grow on them, with some plantings dating as far back as 1914. Once optimal ripeness is reached, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by rigorous sorting of the berries. A traditional style is adopted in the winery, with long fermentations carried out in open wooden vats. The red grapes are placed in cold pre-fermentation maceration to enhance the juiciness of the aromas. Finally, the masses are aged for many months in French and American oak barrels, 10-25% new.

Domaine Arnaud Machard de Gramont produces more than 10 different AOCs, including Aloxe-Corton, Chorey-les-Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosnee-Romaneé, Pommard, Savigny-les-Beaune and Puligny-Montrachet. Elegant and balanced Burgundian reds and whites, ready in their youth but endowed with great longevity.
