Maison Cornut
The production reality of Maison Cornut operates in the municipality of Saint-Gilles, where the Cornut family has been producing quality wines and spirits for 9 generations, although the official foundation of the Maison dates back to 1976. Saint-Gilles is located between the beautiful cities of Nîmes and Arles, at the southern tip of the Rhône Valley, close to the Mediterranean coast. In this fascinating territory, the current owners of the Maison, twin brothers Numa and Alexis Cornut, work with respect for the health of the environment. Furthermore, the production vision of the two involves the recovery of traditional practices in such a way as to support the expressive authenticity of the territory.
Following the principles of organic farming, Numa and Alexis of Maison Cornut cultivate the grape varieties Chardonnay, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. The vines are located in old vineyards planted on predominantly clay and limestone soils, also characterized by an abundant presence of gravel. In the cellar, fermentations are carried out spontaneously in concrete eggs for the intervention of only the naturally occurring yeasts on the grapes and in the winemaking environment, and always in concrete, the masses remain to mature for several months on the fine lees. The final bottling is carried out without the addition of sulfites, with the utmost respect for the wine's genuineness. As for the gin, it is produced from botanicals from the Mediterranean coasts sourced from certified organic farms. Each ingredient is distilled separately in small batches, including juniper, cedar, lemon, rosemary, lavender, sea salt, pine needle, and thyme. Meanwhile, the rum comes from carefully selected barrels from various distilleries on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, produced with pure sugarcane juice and bottled in France. Finally, Maison Cornut also markets refreshing organic lemon and mint liqueurs.
The wines and spirits of Maison Cornut stand out for their pure and genuine dimension, modern yet at the same time linked to the tradition of Southern France.
