Barrientos

The Gin Sea is an original creation by Manuel Barrientos, who has long worked in the hospitality sector in Galicia, the beautiful and wild region of Spain overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Alongside this main activity, Manuel has always nurtured a great passion for the world of wine and over time has developed a growing interest in Spirits, particularly Gin. This ancient distillate originating from Northern Europe has indeed experienced, especially in the last decade, a period of lively rediscovery. An interest that has led to the birth of many new labels strongly characterized by the place of production, thanks to the primary or sometimes even exclusive use of local botanicals.

Manuel Barrientos has thus decided to ride this nouvelle vague of Gin, which aims to create labels with a distinctly territorial character. Starting from the classic models of traditional London Dry Gin, the new producers who have approached this distillate have enriched the base recipe with herbs and plantsof the flora of the country of production. Within a few years, an infinite number of labels have emerged, each expressing a different facet that faithfully and authentically reflects the land of origin. Following this movement, a phase of study and research began, which led to the creation and market launch of Gin Sea in 2012.

Manuel Barrientos obviously drew inspiration from his land, from the extreme tip of Europe facing the ocean and from the marine landscape of the city of La Coruña. It was therefore inevitable to orient towards the production of a Gin inspired by the sea, with iodine, brackish, fresh and saline atmospheres. After a long process of research and experimentation, he selected eleven strictly Galician botanicals, including: juniper, cardamom, thyme, chamomile, licorice, coriander, mint, cinnamon, orange, and lemon peels, which give the Gin a pleasantly citrusy and balsamic character. Each herb is macerated separately to ensure the absolute purity of the extraction of aromas in solutions of pure alcoholof grain. The distillation process takes place in traditional copper stills in a historic Spanish distillery.
