Giovanni Manzone's winery is one of those Barolo realities that with commitment and effort has been able to survive through difficulties, thanks to the strong and determined spirit that has always distinguished the Manzone family. We are in Monforte d'Alba, one of the most famous and appreciated communes suited to the production of Barolo, an area where for five generations the Manzone family has been handing down their knowledge of winemaking. The origins of today's estate date back to 1925, the year in which Giovanni Manzone, grandfather of the current owner of the same name, inherited by random lottery the most arduous family plots to cultivate, located in Ciabot del Preve, in the locality of Castelletto. With great dedication and beyond all expectations Giovanni managed to tame this difficult land by starting a production of quality wine, then necessary for survival. Since the 1970s the winery has been run with commitment and passion by husband and wife Giovanni and Rita Manzone, now supported by their children Mauro, the family winemaker, Mirella, responsible for administration and reception, and Patrizia, a graduate in Theology.

The little more than 8 hectares of vines owned by the Giovanni Manzone winery are largely reserved for His Majesty Nebbiolo, undisputed ruler of the enoic Langhe, flanked by a few rows of Barbera, Dolcetto and Rossese Bianco, a grape variety native to Liguria but cultivated for centuries in the lower Piedmont region. These varieties are farmed sustainably by applying the principles of integrated pest management, with the aim of limiting the use of phytosanitary treatments to what is strictly necessary. In the winery, winemaking craftsmanship reigns, with fermentations entrusted to indigenous yeasts and accompanied by long macerations on the skins. A combination of tonneaux and large oak barrels is adopted for Barolo aging, and throughout the entire process the use of clarification and filtration is excluded, with the utmost respect for the characteristics of the terroir.

The most important Barolos produced by the Manzone Giovanni winery are those attributable to the Additional Geographical Mentions of 'Castelletto' and 'Gramolere,' true jewels of the estate. These are elegant and structured Barolos, appreciable in their youth but capable of revealing their best with a few years on their shoulders.

"Qui nascono alcuni dei migliori Barolo: comunicano in maniera avvincente il loro territorio, rivelando naturalezza e personalità"
