Midleton Distillery
Midleton Distillery is an important Irish distillery that produces Whisky in the wake of the oldest traditions of the territory. Its origins date back to 1825, when brothers James, Daniel, and Jeremiah Murphy decided to create the Old Midleton distillery, in the area between Cork and Youghal. The history of the distillery has gone through numerous ups and downs until the mid-1960s, when the only three distilleries in Ireland came together in the United Distillers of Ireland, which would later become Irish Distillers Ltd. In 1975, Irish Distillers Ltd closed its historic headquarters in Dublin and the new headquarters in Midleton was created. Today it is the most important reference point for the production of Irish spirits and is visited every year by thousands of enthusiasts who want to discover where great spirits are born.
The Midleton Distillery produces for numerous very famous brands of Irish Whisky, including Jameson, Midleton, Powers, Redbreast, Writers Tears, The Irishman, Green Spot, Yellow Spot, and many others. It is an important production hub for the entire nation and every year millions of bottles of Whisky leave the distillery, destined for the main markets around the world. The new headquarters has a remarkable production capacity and has now taken on a truly industrial face. However, despite the developments of recent decades and the management of a large number of historic brands, which have the need to offer a significant number of bottles on the market, the Midleton Distillery has not lost the character of its origins as a small artisanal business and has been able to maintain a particular care in the production of Whisky.
The selection of top-quality malts, the distillation processes still carried out in a traditional pot still, and the use of pure spring water to lower the final alcohol content of the spirits, allows for the production of excellent Whisky that renews the tradition of producing spirits characterized by a pleasant taste softness, enveloping malty and fruity notes that make the sip round and welcoming. Midleton Distillery represents the true soul of WhiskyIrish, many centuries have passed since its foundation, but the spirit and production philosophy that underlie every single bottle that leaves this glorious distillery have remained unchanged.
