Montecorneo
Montecorneo is a small artisanal winery from Umbria located in Sant’Andrea d’Agliano, on the outskirts of Perugia, where in 2010 Maria Cristina Ceccucci and her husband Fausto Gallina officially started their winemaking project together with their children, reviving the ancient agricultural tradition of the Gallina family. Already three years earlier, the producer had begun a series of studies on her land discovering that in the ancient Gregorian land registry the property was marked under the name of Montecorneo. The number 570 instead represents the house number that is still visible outside. As mentioned, the winemaking tradition, and generally agricultural, of the Gallina family is much older, dating back at least five generations, but it is precisely between 2010 and 2011 that the estate resumed full-scale winemaking after the vineyard renovations that took place in 1999 and 2003. Also in 2010, the winery also started its hospitality activity and, moreover, the Gallina-Ceccucci family is dedicated to the production of oil, cured meats, and vinegar.
The vineyards of the Montecorneo winery are conducted entirely under certified organic management and are dedicated to the grape varieties Montepulciano, Merlot, Grechetto, and Pinot Grigio. These varieties are grown on soils characterized by a variable presence of clay, sand, and limestone depending on the reference parcel. The harvest is done by hand and the foundation of the enological philosophy of the Gallina-Ceccucci family is to never follow a predetermined protocol, but rather to adapt from year to year the most authentic expression of the territory. Following this genuine vision, the fermentations occur in a completely spontaneous manner and as wine containers, stainless steel tanks and concrete vats are mainly adopted, with some wines aging in French oak tonneaux.
This is how the sincere and pure interpretations of the family-run Montecorneo winery originate, whether it is the lively rosé 'Tilt' or the macerated white 'Hambre'.
