Montes Alpha
The Montes Alpha winery is one of the most well-known names in the Chilean wine scene, primarily recognized for its premium reds with an international style. The historic headquarters of this large winemaking reality, founded in 1987 by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, is located in Santa Cruz, in the central area of Chile, although the estate's vineyards are spread across different regions of the country. This heterogeneity of cultivated territories is an incredible resource, allowing Montes Alpha to choose the most suitable variety for each microclimate and soil.
The estate is notably large, with about 1,500 hectares, located partly in the Colchagua Valley, between the areas of Apalta and Marchigüe, partly in the Casablanca area, and partly in Zapallar, in the Aconcagua Valley. In general, the vineyards benefit from the simultaneous influence of the Pacific Ocean and the Andes, although microclimates vary from region to region. In the more inland area of Apalta, the climate is generally mild, while in Marchigüe's closer proximity to the Pacific Ocean results in a cooler and more ventilated climate. Casablanca also stands out for its cool temperatures, ideal for the cultivation of white grape varieties, even more pronounced in Zapallar, located in the far north of the Aconcagua Valley and just 7 kilometers from the coast. The varieties grown are all of French origin and include Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Nero, and Chardonnay. After fermentation, the aging of the wines takes place in first or more used French oak barrels.
The bottles from the Montes Alpha winery are appreciated by international critics and enthusiasts around the world, released in almost 10 million specimens each year. The proposed lines are numerous, of different ranges and styles. The red wines are generally structured, mature, and generous, while the white wines show excellent balance between softness and fresh-salty shoulder.
