Nagahama Distillery
Nagahama Distillery is a very particular reality within the landscape of the Rising Sun. It possesses, in fact, the smallest distillery in all of Japan and offers a high-quality whisky with unique and specific characteristics, endowed with great personality. The distillery is part of Shin Group Corporation. A company that started its activity in 2012 and has specialized in the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages globally. It is present in over 40 countries, including major foreign markets such as the United States, Europe, China, Russia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, and Latin America, with numerous brands able to offer a wide selection of spirits.
The Nagahama Roman Beer Co. distillery is located near Lake Biwa, in the Shiga prefecture. It has only recently ventured into the field of the famous Scottish distillate, in fact, it began whisky production only in 2016. It is the smallest distillery in all of Japan and despite the limited number of bottles it can produce, it offers not only excellent single malts, but it also produces blended whiskies assembled with distillates purchased abroad, which are then aged in the particularly favorable climate of Nagahama. The nearby presence of Mount Ibuki ensures a cool and always very ventilated climate, characterized by significant temperature excursions, which favor excellent aging and give the distillates a good softness and aromatic complexity.
As we said, the peculiar characteristic of the distillery is being the smallest production unit in the country. The process takes place using a traditional Pot Still “Aranbic”, which is heated indirectly with steam to precisely control the temperature. The artisanal dimensions allow only small batch processing of a maximum of 1000 liters. The ability to keep the entire production process under careful and meticulous control always guarantees high quality. It is precisely these characteristics that give the whiskies a personality absolutely unique, of extraordinary finesse and elegance, with intense and complex aromas.
