Nicolas Roux
Nicolas Roux is a Bordeaux wine producer who in 2015 took over the winemaking legacy of his family, starting to focus on the craft production of genuine wines. The Roux family has owned Château Coulonge, the core of the Domaine, since 1804, when Nicolas's ancestors, sharecroppers, were gifted the castle by the Countess of Benauge. This Château is located near the municipality of Mourens, in the southeastern part of the Bordeaux wine region, on the right bank of the Garonne River. Nicolas inherited the estate from his father Daniel, immediately embracing sustainable viticulture and a minimalist enology aimed at expressing the most authentic essence of the territory.
On just 4 hectares of vineyards, Nicolas Roux cultivates the traditional grape varieties Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, which benefit from both the cool and temperate oceanic climate and the clay-limestone soils of alluvial origin. The plants, some of which are very old, are cultivated under organic farming practices, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand.with a meticulous selection of the grapes. In the cellar, fermentations occur spontaneously in stainless steel tanks or in concrete vats, the same types of wine containers used during the maturation phase. Throughout the entire processing, the use of clarification or filtration operations is excluded, as is the addition of enological additives.
Whether white or red, the interpretations of the Bordeaux vigneron Nicolas Roux possess a truly ancestral dimension. His wines, the result of a long-standing and established family tradition, impress with their straightforwardness and spontaneity, as well as their exceptional quality-price ratio. It is also noteworthy that Nicolas Roux bottles his wines in Burgundy bottles instead of the traditional Bordeaux ones, further proof of the originality of his production.
