Domaine Noella Morantin is an artisanal winery in the Loire Valley that produces wines of extraordinary purity and authenticity, strongly linked to their terroir of origin. The soul of the estate that takes its name is Noella Morantin, a winemaker who at the age of 28 decided to leave her job in Brittany to devote herself to winemaking following an enlightening encounter with a professor of viticulture. After taking a course in viticulture and enology, Noella realized a series of experiences with important artisanal producers in the Loire and Burgundy. However, it was her meeting with Japanese importer Junko Arai that marked a turning point in the winemaker's life. In fact, Junko owned vineyards and was looking for someone who could take care of them. Thus, in 2004 the collaboration between Noella and Junko began, which led to the rapid success of the wines of Domaine Les Bois Lucas, the name of the winery owned by Junko Arai, in the markets of France and Japan. Between 2008 and 2009, Noella embarked on an entirely personal project by leasing just over 12 hectares from Didier Barrouillet of Clos Roche Blanche, with the intention of purchasing them in the future.
With love and dedication, winemaker Noella Morantin cultivates her vineyards near Pouillé in the Touraine area, embracing the dictates of biodynamic agriculture. The vineyards, planted on soils rich in clay, limestone and flint, are dedicated to the Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Côt grape varieties, synonymous with Malbec. Harvesting is done by hand, and in the cellar winemaking is often done whole cluster through minimalist winemaking, based on entirely spontaneous fermentations and the exclusion of additives and oenological aids, except for very low doses of sulfur dioxide at bottling. Oak barrels of different sizes and multiple passages are used as wine containers for aging, and throughout the entire process clarification and filtration are then excluded.
These assumptions give rise to Noella Morantin's wines, outspoken and unconventional interpretations that impress from the first taste. Prominent among the protagonists of the selection is Sauvignon Blanc, a variety that Noella manages to vinify in a surprising way.
