In the heart of the Mexican region of Jalisco, in the small town of Atotonilco, lies the sumptuous and ancient estate of the hacienda Patròn, the large distillery that produces an ultra-premium tequila, considered by many to be one of the best in the world. The story of Patròn tequila is an ancient one, linked to the name of one of the oldest distilleries in all of Mexico; the brand was reacquired in 1989 to be promoted worldwide and, since 2002, its production has been transferred to the current distillery.

At the Patròn distillery, only the hearts of blue agave, a very prized variety of agave called Weber and cultivated by the company’s ‘jimadors’ in the volcanic soils of the hills of Jalisco, are used as raw materials. This plant takes at least eight years to mature and reach the sugar level necessary to produce Patròn tequila. Once harvested and cut, the heart of the agave (called Piña) is cooked in small masonry ovens for 79 hours. The juice that emerges from the ovens is then macerated and fermented, before being distilled. Part of the juice is distilled according to the centuries-old Tahona process (which involves the manual use of stone wheels, pine barrels, and discontinuous stills, as well as the presence of agave fibers in the juice), while the rest undergoes the more modern lamininatoio process (without agave fibers). The two different varieties of tequila produced are then blended and balanced together by master distiller Francisco Alcaraz to create the final product: the impeccable and exquisite Patròn tequila.

Every drop of Patròn tequila is produced according to this meticulous manual method, which involves the intervention of at least 60 people. In the distillery, everything is produced artisanally, from the cutting and cooking of the agaves to the production of the picturesque bottles, corks, and labels. Those who drink Patròn tequila are therefore guaranteed to drink a distillate of the highest quality, smooth and with fine aromas, produced manually with extreme precision and careful attention to detail.
