Père Magloire
The Maison Père Magloire has a long history in the production of this fine French spirit. The Domaine is located in Pont-l'Évêque, in the heart of Normandy, a region always famous for Calvados. In 1821, the Debrise-Dulac company was created, owner of the Père Magloire brand. Within less than a century, Calvados Père Magloire became the most famous in France, achieving a prominent role that it still proudly defends today. Despite the fact that the company has changed ownership several times in recent decades, the extraordinary quality of its spirits has remained unchanged, continuing to be a reference point not only in France but also in the world, with about 60% of production going abroad.
Calvados is an integral part of the history and traditions of the Normandy region. The word Calvados, from an etymological point of view, comes from the union and contraction of the Latin words "calvaria" and "dorsum", used by sailors in the 17th century to indicate the treeless hills that could be seen arriving from the sea in Normandy, between Arromanches and Asneles. The custom of producing brandy dates back to the 16th century, and in the 1600s the distillers' corporation was created. The production of Calvados stems primarily from the Norman tradition of cultivating apple orchards of many ancient varieties, with very different and complementary tasting characteristics.
The art of producing Calvados begins with the making of apple cider. At this point, the cider is distilled to obtain an apple brandy. The distillate is then aged in noble woods to acquire the right degree of softness and harmony before being bottled. Although the Maison Père Magloire has now reached significant dimensions, the artisanal approach has not changed, still based on an ancient know-how passed down from generation to generation.
