Pianpolvere Soprano

The Pianpolvere Soprano winery represents the excellence of a historic cru of the Langhe, renowned for centuries for the extraordinary quality of its Barolo. The name of the Vigna Pianpolvere Soprano has ancient origins, dating back to the late 1700s, when Napoleon Bonaparte chose this hill to build a powder magazine. Its ownership remained under the control of the Church until the early 1900s, when it was acquired by the Fenocchio family. In 1998 it was purchased by the current owners, the Migliorini family, who also own a prestigious estate in Rocche di Manzoni, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. This is a terroir that has always been sought after by great Barolo producers, which today expresses labels that are part of the select elite of the best excellences of the denomination.

The Vigna Pianpolvere Soprano extends over 9 hectares in the famous cru Bussia of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most renowned and valued areas of all Barolo lands. Bussia interprets the traditional and classic style of great Barolo, rich, elegant, and austere, with important tannins and a slow evolution time. This is a parcel of particular value, characterized by a wonderful exposure facing west and southwest, perfectly sunlit until sunset. The soils are composed of rather compact and deep calcareous-clay marls, which contribute to giving the wine intensity, complexity, structure, and longevity. The mild and always well-ventilated climate keeps the grapes healthy. The bunches arrive at harvest time with rich aromas and an extraordinary finesse.

The Migliorini family, aware of the exceptional value of the Vigna Pianpolvere Soprano, has reserved the utmost care and attention to the agronomic management of the precious rows. This virtuous perspective includes the choice to adhere to the Green Experience project, which provides for strict rules for vineyard management. The regulations do not allow the use of chemical herbicides. The inter-row must be kept grassy and managed with the practice of cover cropping, and only the use of organic fertilizers is permitted. Integrated pest management is practiced, sexual confusion techniques are employed, and artificial shelters have been built for birds and bats to increase the level of biodiversity in the vineyard. The vineyards are part of a healthy and balanced ecosystem that helps promote vine health.
