Péters Pierre
Pierre Péters is a family-owned Maison that produces artisanal Champagne. The Domaine is located in the famous Grand Cru di Mesnil-sur-Oger, in one of the most prestigious areas of the Côte des Blancs. The origins of the Domaine date back to 1858, when Gaspar Péters moved to Mesnil-sur-Oger from Luxembourg and started a small business selling grapes from his wife's vineyards. In 1929, despite the global economic crisis, the Domaine began bottling and selling Champagne under the brand Camille Péters and acquired several hectares of vineyards in the lieu dit "Les Chétillons". In 1946, the Maison took on its current name of Pierre Péters. Today it is managed by the new generations of the Péters family, cherishing the ancient savoir-faire.
The property extends over about twenty hectares divided into numerous parcels located in the municipalities of Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Avize, and Cramant. The vines have an average age of about 30 years and are largely planted with Chardonnay, coming from a mass selection of the oldest plants of the estate. The property is located a few kilometers south of Épernay, in a very suitable area due to the presence of soils composed of exposed chalk banks. The vineyards are east-facing, sunny in the morning, and well protected from western winds. The agronomic management is very environmentally friendly, and the Maison is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The ultimate goal of the work in the vineyard is to produce perfectly ripe and healthy grapes, ready to be sent for vinification.
The harvests are carried out manually, and the bunches are pressed slowly and gently to extract only the free-run juice, capable of expressing the finesse, minerality, and citrus freshness typical of great Chardonnays, which is then found in the cuvées of the Maison. All fermentations are carried out by individual parcel to highlight their peculiarities and to have a wide range of nuances available at the time of creating the blends. To the vintage wines, a rich heritage of over twenty vintages of reserve wines, used to produce Champagne sans année.
