Plonerhof
The Plonerhof winery represents a recently established reality that, however, carries with it tradition and craftsmanship. A typical maso, the South Tyrolean term for a landholding property, abandoned for years and purchased in 2004 by Erhard Tutzer, a visionary innovator with fifty years of experience in nurseries dedicated to the production of vine cuttings for winemaking. Here now lie about 4 hectares of vineyards, which Erhard planted after uprooting countless fruit trees that covered the surface of the plot, a practice seen as sacrilege in the South Tyrolean agricultural environment.
to this research and to his matured professionalism acquired over the decades, he created Wine Plant, currently the fifth private nursery at the national level, from which he has extrapolated the secrets of selecting cuttings for his plots: currently, in fact, his Pinot Noir vineyard counts 172 clones of the grape variety, making it the largest collection in Italy. Thanks to his initiative, the kellermeister of Plonerhof has recently created and participated in Innovitis, a reality that, together with the San Michele all’Adige Institute, is studying and experimenting with the use of so-called “Piwi” grape varieties, hybrids between different species of vines that, through the natural sharing of genetic heritage, develop resistance to parasitic diseases such as downy mildew or powdery mildew, without even needing copper and sulfur. With these grape varieties, Tutzer has also developed a white based on Solaris (Piwi grape) that is already yielding great satisfaction, not to mention the environmental benefits. Among his refined and precise interpretations, he can also include, in addition to the Pinot Noir fromwhich he obtains an elegant selection, vinifications from Sauvignon, Riesling, and Pinot Blanc that masterfully convey their territory of origin.
