Poggio Argentiera is the happy marriage between two terroir, two hot Maremma souls from unique features. The beginning of the history of this company takes place in 1997, when Gianpaolo Paglia buys a farm dating back to the early twentieth century, a period of consolidation of Maremma. It was Podere Adua, extended for six acres near the natural park of Maremma and at only five km from the sea, at the same altitude of it and in front of Marina di Alberese. Nestled in the coastal climate, with high temperatures, always sunny and never rainy, the land has a sandy soil and limestone. In 2001 Gianpaolo decided to expand the company, building a new cellar for wine making and coming to have twenty acres of land, with the purchase of the second farm, complement of the first one. It was Podere Keeling, which is named as Gianpaolo’s wife herself, Justine. This farm is located in the town of Scansano at a higher altitude then Podere Adua: lying on a hilly area, 250 meters above sea level, the natural inclination of the vineyards gives a cooler climate and an extremely rocky terrain. From the beginning, respecting nature with its rhythms and its peculiarities, the production was entirely devoted to the Morellino di Scansano: year after year, there has been a process of continuous improvement, together with the history of the winery and the two spouses’ project, and today the Morellino di Poggio Argentiera is a real surprise: such a warm and sunny intensity, the one of Capatosta, that is a great ambitious and valuable representation of its land.
