Ramos Pinto

Ramos Pinto is an excellence of Portugal. Founded at the end of the 19th century by Adriano Ramos Pinto, it still represents an essential reference point for great Portuguese wines. The winery is located in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in the heart of the wonderful and scenic vineyard of the Douro Valley. The estate covers a total area of about 400 hectares. The vines have an average age of about 30 years and are cultivated at an altitude ranging from 100 to 600 meters above sea level. Always faithful to the oldest traditions of a territory rich in native grape varieties, Ramos Pinto cultivates only the varieties that have been present in these lands for centuries: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta da Barca.

The vast property of Ramos Pinto is divided into four estates, each characterized by particular features: Quinta do Bom Retiro, Urtiga, Quinta dos Bons Ares, and Quinta de Ervamoira.

Quinta do Bom Retiro has a long history, dating back to 1789, the year in which Her Majesty Queen D. Maria I included it in the "Feitoria Zone". The vines are located in the Cima Corgo area of the Douro, near Pinhão, close to the Torto River. It extends over an area of 110 hectares, situated at an altitude ranging from 110 to 400 meters, with a good portion of the vineyards being over 40 years old and producing grapes of particular value, with rich and concentrated aromas. The vines are cultivated on traditional terraces, creating a landscape of great charm. The Urtiga Estate is located next to Quinta do Bom Retiro. It is a small vineyard of only 3.5 hectares cultivated with centenary vines on terraces that are over two centuries old. A small jewel that represents the historical memory of the terroir.

Quinta dos Bons Ares is located in the Douro Superior area and covers a total area of 47 hectares, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The vines are cultivated on soils predominantly composed of granitic sands, quite loose and very draining, with the presence of schists. The area is distinguished by a temperate climate, which allows for the production of grapes with very intense fragrances and aromas, characterized
