Retorto

Retorto is a young and dynamic craft brewery where play, risk, and experimentation take place, combining the tradition of the most well-known and established brewing styles with the ever-increasing need for drinkability. In Emilia-Romagna, the craft revolution of small brewers has been rooted for some time, and in Podenzano, in the Piacentino area, Marcello Ceresa, along with his brothers, is playing his unique role as a co-protagonist of this alcoholic adventure.

The name of the Retorto brewery is inspired by a small village perched in the upper part of Val Nure, where the project began. Aside from this more historical origin, Marcello didn't mind the idea of thinking of a somewhat (s)crooked and staggering king, perhaps due to a few too many beers?! Marcello, the master brewer at home, has always been fascinated by the agri-food sector: a graduate in Food Science and Technology, he quickly understands how necessary it is to focus on a particular theme to survive in the immense universe of food. The beer is his source of inspiration. He began his brewing apprenticeship in 2008 with friends at BrewPub Docks in Val Trebbia and at Toccalmatto in Fidenza. After gaining experience, the moment for the courageous leap arrives: in 2011, together with his sister Monica, now head of Management, and his brother Davide, who oversees Merchandising, Retorto is born. With a 12-hectoliter plant and 4 initial labels such as Morning Glory, which still represents the undisputed flagship beer of the brewery, Daughter of Autumn, Latte Più, and Krakatoa. Today, the annual production has reached 2000 hectoliters, the old plant has been renewed to align with the highest quality standards, and the range has significantly expanded, thanks to the vitality that has always characterized the spirit of Retorto.
