Marco Sara

The winery of Marco Sara is an example of how through artisanal and sustainable practices it is possible to create clean, dynamic, and finely crafted wines. Marco took the reins of the ancient family estate in 2000, establishing himself within a few years in the wine scene of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The estate is located precisely in Savorgnano del Torre, in the western and cooler part of the hills, an area always suited for the production of sweet and botrytized wines. Not by chance, the first wine produced by Marco was a Picolit from botrytized grapes, still today among the symbols of the producer's selection.

Marco Sara manages approximately 8 hectares of vineyards surrounded by woods and dedicated almost exclusively to traditional varieties such as Picolit, Verduzzo, Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Schioppettino, and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, but also to an international grape variety that has adapted exceptionally well in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region: Cabernet Franc. The vines rest on steep terraced hills located at an altitude ranging from 175 to 350 meters above sea level and benefit from the so-called "ponca", or "flysh", a type of soil consisting of a alternation of layers of marls and sandstones of Eocene origin, very suitable for quality viticulture. The agronomic management is based on respecting the health of the plants, the land, and the environment, a goal pursued through the exclusion of synthetic chemical products and the use of practices such as green manuring, according to the principles of organic farming. Regardless of whether it is white or red grapes, fermentations are carried out with the sole aid of indigenous yeasts in cement tanks or in wooden barrels of various sizes and types, the same containers where the wines remain to mature for several months before bottling.

Those of Marco Sara are fresh and refined interpretations that tell the truest and sincerest aspect of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Among the most famous labels stands out the Cabernet Franc 'Frank', an expression
