Sasanokawa Shuzo
The Japanese distillery Sasanokawa Shuzo is located in Koryama, in the Fukushima Prefecture. It is an area that has always been particularly suited for the production of Sake and Shochu, a spirit that is made, depending on the geographical area, from barley, potatoes, rice, sesame, or sugarcane. Sake and Shochu are indeed the products on which, since the origin of its creation in 1765, the Sasanokawa Shuzo distillery has focused its production efforts. About seventy years ago, however, the distillery also began to dabble in Whisky production, joining the ranks of Japanese realities dedicated to creating this spirit, whose history within the national borders dates back to the end of the nineteenth century. A novelty for Sasanokawa Shuzo, which since then has experienced ups and downs, alternating successes with economic difficulties, until reaching recent times. In 2016, a process of redesigning the distillery was indeed initiated, which today presents itself with a more modern structure in to keep pace with the other famous distilleries in the country.
