Selva Capuzza
Selva Capuzza is truly a historic winemaking reality: in 2018 it had the honor of celebrating its hundredth harvest! A century of vines and life, of hard work and promotion, of responsibility and successes. In the production area located south of Lake Garda, the fourth generation, represented by Luca Formentini—winemaker, musician, and president of the Consorzio del Lugana—is now personally engaged in the family winery.
The Selva Capuzza winery extends over 30 hectares of property in Desenzano del Garda, precisely in the locality of Selva Capuzza, from which it takes its name. 'Capuzza' seems to derive from its elevated position, on the 'hood' located a few hundred meters from the tower of San Martino della Battaglia. Here, in this natural moraine amphitheater south of Lake Garda, the soils are white, rich in clay in the Lugana area, and pebbly in the inland Gardesano, with layers of gravel and sand present in the deeper bands. The grapes that grow in this particular habitat are fortunate to enjoy the natural ventilation coming from the nearby lake, which positively influences the ripening of the grapes, keeping humidity levels low and providing verticality in the sip and a powerful olfactory impact. Consistent with the idea of environmental sustainability that has always been the foundation of Selva Capuzza's agronomic management, the cultivated varieties are only those typical of the area, with Turbiana and Tuchì (local clone of Tocai Friulano) in the forefront, followed by Groppello and Marzemino. For a long time, part of the grapes has been purchased, but the recent territorial expansion with the planting of new hectares has declared the winery's desire to achieve independence.
Selva Capuzza is not just a winery; it is also an agriturismo and a restaurant, precisely the first Lombard accommodation facility to arise back in 1986; a single entity where the company headquarters and elegant accommodations merge, surrounded by a suggestive landscape made of olive trees and vineyards.
