San Michele Appiano
San Michele Appiano is today considered one of the most important names in Alto Adige, a true guarantee for enthusiasts of South Tyrolean wines and beyond, thanks to its strong ability to make the most of the character of its territory. Founded in 1907, this cooperative winery has managed to carve out a leading role year after year within the Italian wine scene. Hans Terzer, winemaker at the Cantina dei Produttori di San Michele Appiano since 1978, deserves great credit for steering the winery's production towards high-quality output, focusing his work on the care of every detail with a perfect blend of tradition's value and the importance of innovation.
Today, San Michele Appiano passionately dedicates itself to creating great white and red wines, a perfect synthesis of this fantastic terroir that allows the cultivation of various great grape varieties. The cooperative gathers about 340 families of grape growers scattered in various locations on the outskirts of Bolzano. The vineyards extend for a total of 380 hectares in areas with different characteristics, mostly included in the municipality of Appiano. The production, entirely guided by Kellermeister Hans Terzer, is planned through the study and enhancement of each single vineyard. Fermentations take place in steel, with aging that can also be carried out in large oak barrels or in barriques.
Regardless of the bottle you choose, San Michele Appiano will bring an important piece of Alto Adige's history into your glass, a wine produced with the passion and expertise that only a great producer can offer. St. Michael Eppan, as the cooperative is called in German, has carved out a leading role in the wine landscape of the region, becoming known worldwide as a territorial guarantee of excellence and elegance.
