Stuvenagh
The Stuvenagh winery is located under the Castle of Stefanago, in the hamlet of Borgo Priolo, in the wonderful and often underrated Oltrepò Pavese. The unusual name chosen by this business refers to the Celtic appellation of Stefanago, a marvelous castle nestled among the sinuous hills that follow in this strip of land that perfectly fits between Piemonte, Emilia, and Piacentino, caressed by the Po River. A surprising land, with deep-rooted customs and traditions, dotted with numerous castles, like in this case, which reflect the complex and articulated feudal history. These are the pasts that have connected Jacopo Baruffaldi and Ambrogio Bellorini, who founded a brewery within the agriturismo of the Baruffaldi family, also accompanying it with the fervent production of wine.
In the Oltrepò Pavese, the Stuvenagh winery cultivates barley, cereals, coriander, and vines using organic farming, surrounded by 135 hectares of woods and orchards, at 350 – 500 meters above sea level, without any plant population being predominant over the others. The soilschalky soils also welcome the vineyards, which thrive in respect for biodiversity, in balance with the surrounding environment. With seasonal frequency, closely following natural rhythms, the soil is kept alive and dynamic by the inclusion of leguminous crops, which ensure the health of the berries and the consistency of characteristics between vintages. The winemaking practices are managed specifically for each type of label, and only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation.
The wines of Stuvenagh all have unique characteristics and undergo a unique production process for each label: the three different harvests for “Ivan Drago”, the natural refermentation in the bottle of “Crowatina” and “Amico Frizz”, the 62 days of maceration on the skins of “Corti – Giani”. A perfect relationship between the Stuvenagh winery and its grapes Cortese, Riesling Renano, Croatina, and Pinot Grigio. To keep the name of Oltrepò high, between wine and craft beer!
