Tatsis

The Domaine Tatsis is a Greek winery that produces biodynamic wines in an artisanal way and with the utmost respect for nature. The estate is located near Goumenissa, in the region of Macedonia, among the most vocated areas of Hellas. In this area, in fact, viticulture has millenary origins and the Tatsis family can also boast a long history. In the early decades of the '900, during the period of the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire, the grandparents of the current owners moved from Thrace, where they were already practicing viticulture, to Goumenissa, in an area that was already covered by vineyards and famous for centuries for producing excellent wines. A tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation and still represents an important economic resource for the territory.

The adventure of the Tatsis family in Macedonia began with a small property of only 4 hectares, which has been enriched over the years with other parcels, until reaching the current 14 hectares. The vineyards are located in the hilly area of Libaskerit and Gerakona, characterized by calcareous soils very suitable for vine cultivation. Since 1998, the entire property has been managed under certified organic farming and since 2002 the vineyards have been cultivated following biodynamic practices, using only sulfur, copper, horn silica, horn manure, and other natural herbal preparations. Today the estate is managed by Periklis, who oversees the agronomic part and supervises all the work carried out in the fields, and by Stergios, who takes care of the winery and particularly of wine production.

Since 2007, all winemaking operations take place in the new winery. Light, simple, and as natural as possible winemaking practices are used. Fermentations occur spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts, with no added additives. For aging, oak barrels are used. The goal is to highlight the excellent quality of the grapes and enhance the characteristics of the terroir directly. Tatsis wines have a straightforward and genuine profile and express in asimple and authentic the great tradition of the region of Macedonia and its native grape varieties.
