Tenuta Cucco

Tenuta Cucco is located in Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, in one of the most vocated areas of our peninsula for the production of great wines.  For a long time, the precious grapes from the estate’s vineyards, particularly from the cru Cerrati and Vigna Cucco, were sold to famous local producers to create important labels. Only in more recent times, aware of the high quality of its vines, the estate began to vinify and bottle its own wines. After several ownership changes, in 2015 Tenuta Cucco was purchased by the Rossi Cairo family, a famous name in Piedmontese wine, which manages the La Raja winery in Novi Ligure under certified Demeter biodynamic agriculture.

The same principles applied in the lands of Gavi have been brought to the Langhe, with the intent to continue in this new territory the project of a sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture capable of enhancing the biodiversity of the area.  Tenuta Cucco has been converted to organic farming, with the aim of producing wines that are not only of high quality but also genuine and healthy. The Nebbiolo vines are carefully cultivated, using only sulfur and copper, without resorting to herbicides or chemical treatments. Between the rows, green manuring is practiced to improve the natural vitality of the soil, and at the edges of the vineyards, oaks, hornbeams, maples, and cherry trees have been planted.

The soils of the Serralunga d’Alba area are among the most prized in the Barolo area. They are characterized by the presence of compact gray marls, composed of layers of sands and sandstones. They are the soils of the Lequio Formation, the oldest in the Langhe area, capable of giving the wines structure, intensity, and longevity. The vineyards have an average age of 15 years and extend over a total of 13 hectares, with a south and southeast exposure. The estate is located at an altitude of about 420 meters above sea level and enjoys a particularly cool climate, with strong temperature variations. Most of the vineyards are cultivated with Nebbiolo, but there are also some plots of Dolcetto, Chardonnay, and Barbera.
