Tenuta del Priore
Tenuta del Priore is an Abruzzese winery that carries with it a story made of entrepreneurial courage and family roots. It all began in 1973 through the work of the Mazzocchetti cousins, established personalities in the field of Roman construction who, after living a life caught up in the frantic rhythms of the Capital, decided to return to their native land and invest in viticulture. In Collecorvino, in the hinterland of Pescara, Tenuta del Priore was born as a tribute to grandfather Vincenzo, whom everyone in the area used to call “Il Priore”. In these years, Abruzzese wine was slowly coming to the fore, struggling to distance itself from those who conceived it only as a trivial blending red and playing its personal role in the race towards quality.
The young and sparkling present of Tenuta del Priore is today represented by Fabrizio Mazzocchetti, son of the historic founder Antonio, who, together with his father, takes care of the agronomic and oenological management. His entry into the company is marked by the massive enhancement of the indigenous varieties indigenous Abruzzese, primarily Montepulciano. Moreover, everything focuses on technological innovation, in the vineyard and in the winery, starting with the replacement of the dear old tents with the guyot system, which ensures high and targeted quality levels. Here in Collecorvino, the vineyards are located on sloping hills characterized by silty, clayey, and calcareous soils, rich in white stones of morainic and alluvial origin, at altitudes between 150 and 300 meters. It is truly an enviable landscape context, where the vine matures perfectly thanks to the positive influences coming from the Apennines, with its snow-capped massifs of Gran Sasso and Maiella on one side and the mild breezes of the Adriatic Sea on the other. Of particular interest is the “Col del Mondo”, the highest elevation of the area, where it is possible to find a soil rich in morainic stones as well as old historical Montepulciano vines. Not by chance, “Col del Mondo” is the name of the internal production line of the Tenuta that pays homage to thirty years of experience.
