Terre di Giurfo
Within the Catanese municipality of Licodia Eubea, in southeastern Sicily, the wine-growing reality of Terre di Giurfo has always been strongly committed to enhancing the Giurfo territory, with its ancient history. The vineyards of the estate, now managed by Achille along with his family, are located along the valley carved by the Dirillo river, on the borders between the municipalities of Licodia Eubea and the Iblea province. In addition to viticulture, Terre di Giurfo is dedicated to the production of oil and jams, as well as hospitality thanks to a guesthouse immersed in the Sicilian countryside.
The vineyard area available to the Terre di Giurfo winery is about 36 hectares, planted on soils characterized by a heterogeneous composition. In the Iblea area, soils with an abundance of limestone can be found, while on Etna the soil is of volcanic origin, with a very high richness of mineral substances. The plants benefit from the simultaneous influence of the typically Mediterranean sunny climate and the high altitudes, which range from 500 meters in Iblea up to 600 meters of Etna, determining important thermal excursions between day and night that in turn favor the correct ripening of the grapes. In this environmental context, following the principles of integrated agriculture, the estate cultivates indigenous varieties such as Frappato, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Inzolia, and Grillo, alongside which the international grape variety Syrah finds its place, which over the years has well demonstrated its ability to adapt to the pedoclimatic conditions of the territory. Both in the vineyard and in the winery, monitoring is attentive and continuous, in the constant pursuit of the highest quality achievable. The rigorous selection of the bunches at harvest precedes the processing of the masses that takes place in different types of wine vessels, from steel to wooden barrels.
The selection of the Terre di Giurfo winery is wide and varied, including white, rosé, and red wines, both dry and sweet. From Frappato to Etna Rosso, passing through the pure Syrah, all labels act as spokespeople for the territory of origin.
