Terre Nere

The Tuscan winery Terre Nere was born from the passion and love for the land of Pasquale Vallone, who in 1997 decided to breathe new life into the family's agricultural past. Pasquale, originally from Sicily, spent part of his childhood in the province of Palermo while his father Salvatore worked as a steward for a local agricultural estate. The family soon moved to Toscana, where they purchased a farm and began making cheese and producing olive oil and table wine. After working for many years as a banker, establishing numerous contacts with the Montalcino world, Pasquale purchased 15 hectares of uncultivated land and forest on the recommendation of a producer friend in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the southeastern extremity of Montalcino. During his holidays, Pasquale dedicated himself to the care of the new plantations, eventually producing the first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 2002. Today, the producer is supported in managing the winery by his children Francesca and Federico, along with the expert technical advice of the oenologist Giuseppe Gorelli.

The Terre Nere estate owns 9 hectares of vineyards.of Sangiovese Grosso, accompanied by just one hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon, varieties planted in a hilly area particularly suited near the Orcia river and close to Monte Amiata. The altitude ranges from 220 to 280 meters above sea level, while the name of the winery comes from the characteristic dark soils formed by galestro and sandstones, particularly rich in mineral elements. In respect of the environment and the integrity of the grapes, the Vallone family applies the principles of organic farming and carries out the harvest entirely by hand with careful selection of the bunches. The vinifications are carried out separately for each parcel, with spontaneous fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and long macerations on the skins. Subsequently, the wines are placed in large Slavonian oak barrels of 30 and 50 hectoliters for the aging phase, which ranges from 6 months for the Rosso di Montalcino to as much as 48 months for the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.

cantina Terre Nere, shows a captivating expressive breadth, as well as an absolutely extraordinary longevity.
