The Isle of Wight Distillery

The Isle of Wight is a distillery that produces an interesting range of Gin, as well as Vodka and Navy Strength Rum. The Isle of Wight is located in the English Channel, opposite Portsmouth, and hosts the first and only distillery on the island. It was founded by Xavier and Conrad, two enthusiasts who decided to create a range of high-quality spirits, inspired by the wild atmospheres of the territory and primarily using local zero-kilometer ingredients. A project born from the desire to optimize the distillery's activity with an environmental sustainability perspective, seeking to limit the company's impact and minimize waste.

The particular location of the distillery, on a small island with wild nature, makes the connection with the elements of the territory even stronger and more distinctive. The production of Gin is based on many botanicals from the local flora and the gathering of herbs is marked by the seasons, making the distillate a true fruit of time, as well as of the island. The environmental awareness of the two founders was heightened by their daily contact with the sea and beaches, where plastics and other waste accumulate. The pollution of the planet and climate change caused by human industrial activity are issues well recognized by the distillery, guiding many of its ecological and green choices, in line with the guidelines of new development models.

The company has embraced the principles of the circular economy, and the entire business process has been adjusted based on sustainability. The use of plastic in company packaging and supply chains has been progressively eliminated in favor of biodegradable materials. For the production of spirits, natural ingredients are used, not only locally sourced but also from companies that operate ethically: elderflowers are handpicked in local fields, strawberries are grown in the Arreton Valley, many botanicals are gathered along the island's coastline, and hops are sourced from theVentnor botanical gardens. Distillation takes place slowly, using column stills and great artisanal care.
