Triacca

When we talk about Triacca, we are talking about a history spanning five generations and over a century of winegrowing. It all began in 1897, when great-great-grandfather Domenico Triacca, a wine merchant in Valposchiavo, purchased his first plots of land in the Valgella area of Valtellina, convinced that the future lay in the direct cultivation of the vineyard, not merely in the sale of wine. That decision gave rise to a family venture that has never ceased to grow, passing from generation to generation, until it became one of Valtellina’s leading wine-producing groups. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation, supported by the fifth.

Triacca’s production philosophy is based on direct control of the entire supply chain, from vine to bottle. In addition to Valtellina, the group owns estates in Tuscany, reflecting growth built on method and foresight. In the vineyard, the winery introduced the cultivation technique known as girapoggio, an east-west row layout that has facilitated the mechanisation of work on the steep slopes of Valtellina, and has developed a training system with a 15° inclined canopy, designed to maximise sun exposure and compensate for the low average temperatures at altitude. In the winery, the grapes are processed in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with the seeds removed to preserve only the finest tannins. Ageing takes place in wood, in carats, barriques and tonneaux.

Triacca wines are made from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the terraces of Valtellina, in a landscape nestled between the Alps and the Adda valley floor. The winemaking process aims to bring out the Nebbiolo’s fruity notes, with fresh, mineral elements that betray its mountainous origins and its roots in granitic soils. Triacca produces wine across the various sub-regions of Valtellina, an expressive exploration of individual plots, seeking to convey the terroir in a vertical dimension. Bottles crafted to stand the test of time, capable of evolving into a complexity of great character, faithful to over a century of family history.
