The Vajra winery is located in the Vergne hamlet of the village of Barolo, in the heart of the Langhe region. It is a family-run estate, run by Aldo Vajra and his wife Milena with the collaboration of their children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro, who have been following the various business activities for several years now, carrying on the tradition with passion and expertise. Today Vajra is one of the most prestigious names in the appellation, which has been able to put itself in the spotlight with a range of wines with a classic character, interpreting with extreme finesse and elegance the characteristics of an extraordinary terroir, which has been devoted to viticulture for centuries.

The Vajra estate covers a total area of 60 hectares, with some particularly fine plots located in the Bricco delle viole, Costa di Rose and Ravera crus. In addition to the historic nucleus in the communal area of Barolo, since 2009 Vajra has also managed the vineyards of the Luigi Baudana estate located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Ceretta and Baudana localities. These are two different terroirs in the Langhe area, the beautiful hilly area that occupies the southern part of Piedmont, bordered by the Tanaro River, which divides it from the Roero. The extraordinary soil and climate conditions are ideal for the cultivation of vines. The climate is temperate and always ventilated, thanks to the air currents that descend from the Alps, mitigated by the breezes that come up from the Tanaro valley. The presence of good temperature ranges promotes slow ripening of the grapes, allowing the clusters to accumulate not only sugars, but also rich aromatic components.

The soils are of very ancient marine origin. They are formed by sedimentations that were deposited in the ancient gulf of the Piedmont Basin during the Miocene period (12-5 million years ago). Stratifications that gave rise to marls composed mainly of limestone, sands, silts and clays, in different percentages depending on the areas, which give rise to a considerable variability of soils. Vajra has vineyards in Barolo, on soils of calcareous-clay marls with sandy veins and Sant'Agata marls, which give the wines an extraordinary expressive finesse; in the Serralunga d'Alba area, on the other hand, the soils, are connoted by the presence of the Lequio formations, composed of a surface layer of white soils and blue marls, which rest on a more clayey subsoil. The great attention to work in the vineyard and careful vinification allow all the nuances of the different crus to be brought to the glass.

"Il concetto di famiglia del vino qui si trova in una delle sue declinazioni più potenti: sì, perchè Aldo Vaira, sua moglie Milena Ghigo e i figli Giuseppe, Francesca e Isidoro sono prima di tutto una stretta rete di affetti, e i loro vini di conseguenza di un percorso spalla contro spalla di grande solidità"
