Villa Massa
Villa Massa is the name of quality of a great icon of made in Italy: Limoncello. It was founded in 1991 by the Massa brothers in the Sorrento peninsula with the aim of producing the typical “Lemon Liqueur from Sorrento” in accordance with an ancient family recipe dating back to 1890. Over the years, Villa Massa has managed to transform a consumption phenomenon in Italy and around the world into a traditional high-quality liqueur.
For the production of its Limoncello, Villa Massa uses only Sorrento lemons from the municipality of Massa and the island of Capri. The Sorrento lemon, also known as ‘oval of Sorrento’ or ‘lemon of Massa’, is a variety protected by the IGP typical geographical indication characterized by its oval shape, medium-large size, straw-yellow pulp, and rich, fragrant taste. The Sorrento IGP lemon plants are cultivated in lemon groves called “lemon gardens” and are protected from the elements by means of “paglierell”, straw mats supported by wooden poles. From this variety of lemon comes the true Limoncello of Sorrento, born as a typical Campanian product towards the end of the 19th century, always consumed on the tables of Sorrento families as an aperitif or digestif.
The Limoncello of Villa Massa is a craft liqueur of the author produced by mixing lemons, sugar, and alcohol according to a long-standing recipe: from the lemons hand-picked and rigorously selected, small peels are obtained, left to infuse in pure alcohol for several days. The infusion thus obtained is filtered several times and then mixed with purified water and sugar. Thus, a great Limoncello is born that lights up the glass, giving a genuine and traditional taste, capable of enhancing and celebrating around the world the great qualities of the raw materials from the Sorrento peninsula and Capri.
