Wegeler

Wegeler is one of the historic and most renowned estates in the Rheingau, famous for over a century for its fine expressions of Riesling. Its history began in 1882, thanks to the initiative of the founder Geheimrat Julius Wegeler, a descendant of wine merchants and producers. In 1900, with the acquisition of the Bernkasteler Doctor estate, the winery also expanded into the Moselle region. Today, the descendants of the Wegeler-Drieseberg family continue the viticultural and oenological traditions that have made their Rieslings great and prestigious worldwide, ensuring: “despite trends and marketing strategies, nothing has changed.”

At the Wegeler winery, every production process is conducted with the utmost care, from vine cultivation to bottling. In the winery, technology is used to safeguard the aromatic potential of the grapes and the expressiveness of the territory, utilizing the force of gravity for transfers and clarifications of the musts, carried out through static decantation. Fermentations take place slowly in steel tanks and they conclude only during the spring following the harvest. The aging on fine lees takes place in steel or in oak barrels of various sizes where, thanks to the micro-oxygenation due to the microporosity of the wood, the wines achieve breadth and complexity. After aging, which usually lasts a few months, the wines are lightly filtered and retain a traditional residual sugar.

The Riesling Wegeler are renowned for their typical and authentic character, for their quality, and for their undisputed aging potential. For over 130 years, this winery has been dedicated with commitment and dedication to Riesling, discovering all its possibilities, keeping high the expectations of enthusiasts from all over the world, continuously surprising them with expressions far from the ordinary.
