In the 1990s, as a true pioneer, Johannes Plattner, together with Heinrich Mayr of the Nusserhof winery, began vinifying the grapes from his vineyards, which have been managed under organic farming since 1993, according to the guidelines of the Bioland Association. Starting in 1994, Urban Plattner, son of Johannes, decided to convert the company to biodynamics, aiming to create healthy and genuine wines in harmony with the environment and the natural biodiversity of the territory. A vision in which the vineyard is part of a larger ecosystem to be respected and maintained in balance, minimizing the interference caused by human work in the fields.
The estate covers about 3.5 hectares, in a hilly area at an altitude between 400 and 550 meters above sea level, with a south-facing exposure. Alto Adige is a region highly suited for viticulture, thanks to particularly favorable climatic conditions.particularly favorable climatic conditions. The soils are very diverse and heterogeneous, with the presence of porphyries of ancient volcanic origin, schists, glacial moraine debris, and alluvial deposits transported by the Adige and the numerous streams descending from the mountains. Despite the latitude and location in the heart of the Alps, Alto Adige has a rather mild climate. The region is protected by the mountains from disturbances coming from the north and is open to the south to the breezes rising from Lake Garda. The constant ventilation and the temperature swings between day and night favor gradual ripening of the grapes with intense aromatic profiles.
The vineyards are divided into many small plots located in the Renon area, above Bolzano, surrounded by woods and rich spontaneous vegetation. The vineyard work is done manually, with the utmost care for the vines and always trying to preserve the natural vitality of the soils. The only goal is to bring to the winery grapes of excellent quality that are vinified very simply, with spontaneous fermentation.spontaneous and using only indigenous yeasts. To maintain expressive integrity, the wines are bottled without filtration.
