Weingut Von der Mark

Jürgen von der Mark is a central figure in the contemporary German wine scene. In 1994, he moved from Landau to Efringen-Kirchen in Baden, embarking on a journey that culminated in 1996 with the title of Germany's first Master of Wine. After more than ten years as a consultant oenologist in Baden and abroad, in 2003 he founded his own winery and began restoring a historic Pinot Noir vineyard with vines around fifty years old, located in a particularly windy area renowned for its quality. He is now fully established among the great Spätburgunder producers in this area of southern Germany, one of the most suitable outside France.

Weingut Von der Mark's approach to production is rigorous and measured, with a strong focus on the identity of the place. The vineyards are located in Tuniberg, an area characterised by loess and limestone soils that give the wines precision, minerality and depth. Yields are low, harvesting is done by hand and fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Vinification favours open maceration, ageing on fine lees and the calibrated use of wood, always functional to the interpretation of the grape variety and soil. An essential style with minimal, precise intervention, to maximise the 'flavour of the place'.

Jürgen von der Mark's wines stand out for their clear and consistent style. They are tense and profound expressions of Pinot Noir, where structure is combined with a precise mineral texture and an elegance that is never forced. From the 'Village' line to the cru line, each label reflects a constant search for balance, intensity and authenticity. A sincere interpretation of Baden and Tuniberg through wines of great identity and longevity.
