Ansonica 'Ex-Temporaneo' Macchion dei Lupi 2021
Artisanal
Unusual grapes"Ex-Temporaneo" is a pure Ansonica from the Maremma area that is made in terracotta amphorae. It expresses itself on the nose on notes of yellow fruit, dried fruit, honey and resin, with citrine and floral nuances. On the palate it is agile, sharp and fresh, of great progression and with a light tannic touch
“Ex-Temporaneo” derives from the late Latin “extemporaneus”, or our current “extemporaneous”: this from Macchion dei Lupi is therefore a creation born from a sudden idea, a variation on the theme of one of their already appreciated productions, Odyssea. A wine that comes from afar, from the ancient Georgian tradition of winemaking in amphora with very long macerations and included in the absolutely non-interventionist production philosophy of this young, yet already recognized, winery.
The territory of the Macchion dei Lupi winery is represented by the Suvereto area, a few steps from Bolgheri and overlooking the panorama of the island of Elba, the birthplace of Ansonica, the variety that is the protagonist of “Ex-Temporaneo”. The vineyard resides on sandy soils characterized by a great presence of lava fragments. The grapes are cultivated according to the dictates of the biodynamic regime and are hand-harvested at the moment of perfect ripeness. In the winery, the winemaking takes place entirely in terracotta amphorae: the fermentationis spontaneous, carried out by only indigenous yeasts and conducted without temperature control; the maceration on the skins lasts up to 5 months, followed by another 5 months of maturation, always in the same containers. The wine is bottled without undergoing clarification or filtration and spends a final year aging in the bottle.
“Ex-Temporaneo” immediately presents itself in the glass as the worthy representative of a millenary tradition: bright amber hues frame a dense appearance, whose thickness is not only chromatic but perfectly recalls the idea of consistency of the long macerations. The nose creates a nice counterpoint with the sight, presenting itself on intense but rarefied registers: these are aromas that give a beautiful snapshot of the territory, from the Mediterranean warmth of the coast to the iodized freshness of the sea breeze. One can recognize notes of ripe yellow fruit, accompanied and then surpassed by the thrust of citrus scents: fresh and candied peels of orange and cedar, mixed with the unmistakable pungency of the scrub. The tasting reveals a beautiful density, with echoes of all the olfactory sensations, balanced by a perceptible tannic hint. It closes excellently with a burst of lively freshness and a very long saline sensation.
