ANTHILIA DONNAFUGATA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Donnafugata's Anthilia is a wine that expresses a strong rootedness with the production territory. The label reproduces the name given by the ancient Romans to the town of Entella, located in south-western Sicily. It is a white wine with a fresh and fruity character, pleasantly simple and fragrant in its clear expressive immediacy. Its delicate perfumes and captivating aromas make it an ideal companion for informal occasions among friends. Thanks to its aromatic delicacy and finesse, it goes very well at the table with hors d'oeuvres, with seafood or vegetable-based first courses.

The white Anthilia is part of the range of classic wines from this important winery, which has contributed to the renaissance of Sicilian wine. Donnafugata was created by the Rallo family in the 1980s and today owns several estates in some of the most vocated areas of the island. It is a blend made with a majority percentage of Catarratto, supplemented by a small balance of native Sicilian and international grape varieties that have acclimatised very well to the island. The vineyards are located in the Contessa Entellina appellation area, in a sunny hilly zone at an altitude between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. The climate is Mediterranean, mild and breezy, and the soils are predominantly clayey. The grapes are carefully selected before soft pressing and fermentation in steel vats at a controlled temperature of 15-16 °C. Before bottling, the wine is aged in steel for several months.

Donnafugata's Anthilia wine is a classic white with a Mediterranean, sunny and marine profile, distinguished by a suave pleasantness of taste. It exalts above all the characteristics of Catarratto, an indigenous white grape variety widespread throughout the region, but which expresses itself best in the western part of the island. To the eye it has a beautiful, luminous straw yellow colour. Fine and delicate, it expresses floral aromas, hints of citrus peel, lime, aromas of green apple and white-fleshed fruit, enhanced by nuances of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean maquis. Flowing and harmonious, it has a pleasantly fruity, ripe and rich palate, well balanced by a crisp vein of freshness.
