The production reality of Borgo San Daniele presents the Arbis Ros, a red wine structured and characterful born from a sustainable production philosophy aimed at enhancing the Friulian wine territory. It is a pure expression of Pignolo, an indigenous black grape variety whose origins can be traced back to the area of Rosazzo, in the province of Udine. At the beginning of the last century, this grape experienced a long period of crisis due to widespread disinterest from local producers, which risked causing its extinction. However, in the 1980s, Pignolo returned to the limelight, establishing itself as one of the most prized red grapes in the entire Friulian ampelographic platform. The name “Arbis” comes from the Friulian dialect and means “herbs”, referring to the multitude of plant species that populate the territory and the fact that all the inter-row areas of the vineyards of Borgo San Daniele are spontaneously covered with grass.
The Arbis Ros of Borgo San Daniele is a 100% Pignolo cultivated following the principles of biodynamic agriculture on soils rich in limestone and gravel, located in the Ziris area, in the municipality of Cormons. In the winery, the alcoholic fermentation is traditional and is accompanied by 15 days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent maturation period takes place in oak barrels of varying capacities for 12 months, followed by a long aging in the bottle.
Borgo San Daniele Arbis Ros is of intense ruby red color. The aromatic profile is wide and varied, described by hints of small red fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and currant, enriched by balsamic and spicy descriptors. This richness is confirmed on the palate, where the important and full structure coexists with lively freshness and integrated, silky tannins. Long and characteristic is the spicy and fruity finale.
