Dartigalongue is the oldest and longest-established producer of Bas Armagnac: the progenitor Pascal Dartigalongue founded the Maison in 1838, during the time of Louis Philippe, in Nogaro, in the Armagnac wine region and in the heart of Gascony, where he still resides today. On the strength of a tradition handed down through five generations, the masion has remained faithful to its ancient mission: to produce quality Bas Armagnac for export throughout the world.
The Bas Armagnc is the area where the most prestigious and vocated crus for the production of Armagnac are to be found. Today, as in the 19th century, the work of the Dartilgalongue family consists of distilling rigorously selected white wines. The distillates, crystal-clear when they leave the still, are then aged for a long time in oak barrels called 'pièce'. Over the years, the distillate is enriched with a tannic structure and great aromatic complexity while, due to evaporation and the porosity of the wood, part of the Armagnac is dispersed into the air to form what is known as 'la part des Anges', i.e. the part of the Angels. If, on the one hand, this ancient production technique proves to be inefficient in terms of quantity, on the other hand, it allows the production of Armagnac with great personality and depth.
Dartigalongue's Bas Armagnacs age for a minimum period of 5 years up to several decades. In fact, we also find vintage Armagnacs that represent the jewels in the crown of the Maison: these are historic and prestigious vintages that require very long maturation periods and that give, on tasting, intense and unforgettable sensations, among the highest expressions of Armagnac.
