ARSHURA VALTER MATTONI 2019 DESCRIPTION

Valter Mattoni's Arshura is a wine from the Marche region, produced near Castorano in the province of Ascoli Piceno. The winery was established in the 2000s thanks to Valter's passion for the world of wine, a passion inherited from his grandfather Nazzareno, who began cultivating the land at a very young age, producing authentic and genuine wine; and from grandfather Giuseppe, who made wine himself. Today, the rolling hills of Ascoli are the backdrop to the winery's vineyards, which are cultivated respecting the natural growth and development phases of the plants and raw materials. Arshura is a word that indicates an atavistic thirst, a thirst for grapes to be precise, which has always characterised Valter's family.

The Montepulciano grapes of Valter Mattoni's Arshura grow at an altitude of between 200 and 300 metres above sea level. The vines have an average age of 35 years and the soil is mainly composed of clay, for a final product with a strong character; the exposure is south/south-west, optimal for the sun's rays to hit the rows steadily, giving perfect ripeness to the grapes. The climate is Mediterranean with warm, sunny summers, affected by breezes from the Adriatic Sea; winters are mild, often rainy. Harvesting is carried out manually in the first ten days of October; in the cellar, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation occurs thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts for 15-20 days. It matures for 20 days before being bottled.

The colour of Valter Mattoni's Arshura is an intense ruby red with brilliant reflections. The bouquet of aromas is broad and reminiscent of ripe fruit, sweet spices such as vanilla, carob, tobacco and cinchona; on the palate it is lively, enveloping and dynamic with well-integrated tannins. In pairing it is ideal with grilled and stewed red meat dishes with polenta and first courses with elaborate sauces; perfect with mature cow's milk cheeses. Excellent for family gatherings or for romantic evenings in front of the fireplace, sipping the authenticity of the Marche region.
