Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Suculé' Lo Zoccolaio 2022
"Suculé" is a Barbera d'Alba with a fresh, soft, and elegant sip, aged for 18 months in barriques. On the nose, it reveals notes of small dark fruits, rose, cherry, plum, underbrush, and light spicy and vanilla sensations. The taste is lively, balanced, enveloping, and of excellent freshness, with a pleasant persistence on fruity tones.
The Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Suculé" Lo Zoccolaio originates from the golden area of Piedmont for winemaking, namely Barolo, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014, where the Barbera grapes, just like the Nebbiolo ones, find the perfect soil to express their potential to the fullest. The name of the winery refers to the homonymous locality near Bricco di Barolo and historically relates to the fact that this was previously the home of a shoemaker. Recently, the original building has been renovated, using materials and colors typical of the area, respecting the rhythms dictated by nature.
The thirty-year-old vines of Barbera grapes from "Suculé" of Lo Zoccolaio are located between Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, where the soil has a varied composition of alluvial origin: there are fossil Sant'Agata marls, clay, and limestone; it has an excellent exposure to the south/southeast. The harvest is traditionally done by hand, and the must is kept in contact with the skins for about 15 days; a light malolactic fermentation follows.A refinement in French barriques is carried out for 18 months and a final resting in the bottle for 6 months.
“Suculé” Barbera Superiore Lo Zoccolaio impacts the eye with an intense ruby red and intoxicates the nose with hints of rose, red fruits, and vanilla. On the palate, it is fresh and soft, offering excellent persistence. It pairs perfectly with typical cuts of Piedmontese meat, as a filling for fresh pasta, and as main courses; also excellent for accompanying the end of the meal with aged cheeses. A perfect wine to share on occasions of gatherings, celebrations, and ceremonies with family and friends, tasting a product born from the passion of a production philosophy that aims to preserve tradition while innovating it.
