Barbera d'Asti 'Bricco della Bigotta' Braida 2020
Perfect to give as a gift"Bricco della Bigotta" is an intense and vigorous expression of Barbera d'Asti: a structured red wine, with excellent freshness and elegance, aged for 15 months in barrique. On the nose, sensations of licorice, fruit, and vanilla emerge. The sip reveals great balance, depth, and remarkable progression.
The “Bricco della Bigotta” is a great red wine from Braida, a flagship Barbera, along with the “Bricco dell’Uccellone”, from the famous Monferrato winery founded by Giacomo Bologna. Its name is a charming tribute to an old lady who lived near the vineyard where Giacomo Bologna cultivated his Barbera grapes, accustomed to formal and displayed devotional practices. The story goes that the wine was created after a cardinal, a great lover of Barbera, asked Giacomo to change the name of “Bricco dell’Uccellone”, as it caused embarrassment in the Vatican, where it was highly appreciated. In response to the request, Giacomo thus created a new vineyard and a new label: the “Bricco della Bigotta”.
The Barbera d’Asti “Bricco della Bigotta” is born in one of the best vineyards of Rocchetta Tanaro, planted in a medium-textured soil rich in sand and clay; conditions that allow the production of a wine with an intense aromatic and taste spectrum. In the winery, the must ferments with skin maceration for 20 days. A long maturation of 15 months in barrique and another 12 completes the production process and contributes to the balance and great aromatic richness of this Barbera.
The “Bricco della Bigotta” offers an elegant aromatic range, broad and well evolved. On the palate, the ripeness and juiciness of the fruit dominate over every woody note, offering an extraordinary mix of fruit and spices, with complex and well-integrated notes. This is an excellent Barbera that lends itself to pairing with red meats and aged cheeses, for an exciting, dreamlike gastronomic experience.
