Barbera d'Asti 'Primevì' Cascina San Michele 2022
Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Barbera Primevì from the Cascina San Michele winery is a faithful territorial expression that tells the traditional characteristics of the grape variety that composes it. In appearance, it is an intense bright violet-red while on the nose it releases typical aromas of currants, fresh violets, and red plums. The slightly earthy aromatic component and wild strawberries are interesting. The taste is energetic and full, nicely fresh with crunchy fruit and balanced between body and structure.
The Barbera “Primevì” is a red wine from the Piedmontese tradition classic, immediate, and easily interpretable. The processing only in steel allows to rediscover in the final sip all that freshness that characterizes the fruity aromas of Barbera, demonstrating how Cascina San Michele is a master in handling the grapes while always respecting their original traits. This is also contributed by the approach in the vineyard, where no chemical substances are used but only low doses of copper and sulfur, and in the winery, where fermentations always occur spontaneously and where human intervention is limited to the minimum necessary to accompany the natural path of the wine.
This “Primevì” is a Barbera d’Asti that comes from the grapes of a variety that has always been widely cultivated within the Piedmontese regional borders, the Barbera. The clusters, harvested during the manual harvest with rigor to ensure only the best of the terroir of origin, are transported in small boxes to the vinification facilities of Cascina San Michele. Here, after the destemming, the berries are pressed, and the must obtained from this operation ferments spontaneously in steel tanks for a period ranging from 20 to 30 days, accompanied by frequent pump-overs. The wine then matures in stainless steel, where it remains until the bottling moment, in which no filtration is carried out.
The Barbera d’Asti “Primevì” presents itself to the eye with a ruby red color, crossed by slight reflections tending more towards purple at the rim. On the nose, there is a combination of mainly fruity notes, expressed with different nuances and sensations. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a refreshing sip that gives dynamism to the drinking experience, always very pleasant on the palate. A red from the Piedmontese tradition made impeccably by Cascina San Michele, fully honoring the integrity of the starting variety.
