Famous especially for its great interpretations with Cortese di Gavi, Villa Sparina has also ventured into the realm of reds, choosing the variety historically present in the territory. A wine young and exuberant par excellence, Barbera is vinified while preserving its character of immediate fragrance, aiming to highlight its ripe fruit, freshness, and pleasant drinkability. It is the ideal wine to serve at the table with the flavorful first courses of traditional Piedmontese cuisine.
The red Barbera del Monferrato is born in one of the most important estates in the lower Piemonte region. Villa Sparina manages a property of over 100 hectares, of which about 70 are dedicated to vineyards, surrounded by woods that ensure significant environmental biodiversity. Most of the vines are cultivated with Cortese, but among the rows, there is also space for Barbera, a grape variety that has been present in the lands of Monferrato for centuries. The Barbera vineyardsextend over 9 hectares, in the countryside of Rivalta Bormida and in the hilly area near Acqui Terme, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level, with sunny south, southwest exposure. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 27 °C, with a maceration period on the skins of a couple of weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures for a few months in steel.
