Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru by Fontaine-Gagnard is a white of extraordinary elegance and class, with a full-bodied and dense structure, the result of the best Chardonnay grapes of the Burgundy Grand Cru. It expresses intense and complex notes of citrus peel, orange oil, white flowers and toasted nuts, revealing a fleshy and material sip, wide and deep, of pleasant freshness and delicate minerality
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard's Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is one of the most prestigious labels of this splendid family-owned business, which for several generations has been cultivating vines in one of the world's most vocated terroirs for the production of extraordinary Chardonnay-based whites. The grape variety expresses itself here with elegant and complex, harmonious and seductive aromas, offering wines of remarkable persistence and longevity. The Montrachet area is located between Mersault and Santenay, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, and it is home to no less than four Grand Crus, among the most famous in Burgundy: Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 250 to 290 meters and the soils are composed of compact limestone, rich in stones and crisscrossed by veins of clay marl.
Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay originates from an estate created in 1985 by a family of vignerons from the Côte de Beaune. Today Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard manages 12 hectares of vineyards, located mainly in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, with some parcels cultivated in Volnay et Pommard. The winery's philosophy is based on an ancient savoir-faire inspired by cultivation carried out in harmony with the natural environment. Work in the vineyard is done manually, following the principles of sustainable agriculture. The grapes come from 3 plots with southeast and southwest exposure, located on soils of limestone matrix, with the presence of silt and clay, particularly suitable for Chardonnay. The clusters are pressed softly, to extract only the flower must. Winemaking follows customary practices, with fermentations using indigenous yeasts. The wine matures for 12-18 months in French oak barrels, with 30-40% new wood.
The white Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Fontaine-Gagnard is a great Chardonnay, expressing all the elegance and refined finesse typical of an extraordinary terroir. In the goblet it is light yellow in color with bright and luminous golden reflections. The olfactory profile is intense and complex, with scents of white flowers, fragrances of citrus peel, aromas of ripe yellow fruit, pineapple, honeyed softness, hints of small pastries, almond and dried fruit. The sip is long and persistent, with rich, deep aromas anticipating a harmonious finish marked by a pleasant mineral freshness. A standout!
