Capo di Stato is a robust and powerful red wine, born form international grape type and aged in oak barrels for at least 18 months. The bouquet is rich and complex, with notes of jam, black cherries, humus ans sweet spices. The taste is structured, smooth and warm, well-balanced and very persistent

The Capo di Stato is the flagship and pride of the prestigious winery Conte Loredan Gasparini of Venegazzù, in the heart of Marca Trevigiana. It is a red wine with a long tradition, which has become a worldwide enological symbol, so much so that it has been included among the legendary wines of the world in the French guide “100 Vins de Légende”.

The history of Capo di Stato dates back to the 1950s when Count Piero Loredan, known as the red count for his partisan past, identifies a vineyard planted in 1946 and cultivated with international grape varieties as a particularly suited cru, now known as “Le 100 piante”. From this vineyard, the first wine of the winery, called Rosso di Venegazzù, was produced in 1951. But the birth date of Capo di Stato is set in 1967, when at the Gritti Hotel in Venice, during the Biennale, a bottle of Rosso di Venegazzù was served to Charles De Gaulle and his wife. The couple was thrilled and De Gaulle publicly praised that wine. The count, in a sign of gratitude, had two special labels made by the Padua painter Tono Zancanaro, dedicating them to the De Gaulle couple. Thus, Capo di Stato was born, a wine destined to become a legend.

The Capo di Stato by Loredan Gasparin is still produced from grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec harvested from the old vineyard “Le 100 piante”. The vinification takes place in oak barrels, and the wine ages for 18-24 months in large oak casks and in barriques. An additional aging in bottle of at least 12 months completes the production process. On tasting, the wine presents itself in a deep ruby red color tending towards garnet. The nose is captivated by a complex and balanced aromatic exuberance: jammy fruit, humus, underbrush, and many sweet spices, such as cocoa, tobacco, cloves, and many others. The sip reveals power, structure, elegance, warmth, softness, consistency, and an extraordinary persistence.
